  • In its second meeting of the 2022-23 academic year, the 51ÁÔÆæ chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 15 members of the Class of 2023.

  • For the 19th consecutive year, 51ÁÔÆæ has been named a Fulbright U.S. Student Program top-producing institution. Sixteen students and six graduates applied for the 2022-23 academic year cycle. Of those, 13 students were named semi-finalists, 10 received the grant, and one was selected as an alternate.

  • Nine students spent part of their winter break teaming up with Maxwell Akuamoah-Boateng ’09 on a community service project in Philadelphia. Akuamoah-Boateng, who serves as the city’s director of operations for community schools, organized the Alternate Break (AXB) trip that focused on youth engagement/urban service.

  • On Jan. 14, 45 new members of the Class of 2026 officially joined the Hamily. Orientation leaders provided a warm welcome to the January admits as they checked in, moved into their residence hall homes, and got right to it with orientation group meetings, a welcome luncheon with President David Wippman, Dean of Faculty Ngoni Munemo, Vice President for Enrollment Management Monica Inzer, and Dean of Students Chris Card. They signed the College register at matriculation in Buttrick Hall and learned about 51ÁÔÆæâ€™s Honor Code.

  • Three 51ÁÔÆæ environmental studies majors — Emily Benson ’23, Katie Tanner ’23, and Ellie Sangree ’24 — presented their research at the American Geophysical Union Annual Meeting in Chicago in December. The students were accompanied by Aaron Strong and Heather Kropp, assistant professors of environmental studies.

  • Director of the Health Center Barb Fluty received the New York State College Health Association’s 2022 Vincent J. Lamparella Award for Perseverance and Leadership in College Health on Dec. 15. The award recognizes college health professionals who contribute time, talent, and leadership to bolster and strengthen their own health service and/or NYSCHA when needed most.
