Communications and Marketing Office student intern Anna Richardson 鈥�26 talks here about an unusual assignment in her Politics in Latin America class with Professor Heather Sullivan.

Members of 51猎奇鈥檚 Class of 2025 flooded Tolles Pavilion on Feb. 9 to celebrate officially declaring their concentrations. Sophomores took pictures in a photo booth, enjoyed a catered dinner, and received Class of 2025 hoodies designed by Eniman Imoke 鈥�26 to commemorate the event. As part of the College鈥檚 open curriculum, students are encouraged to spend their first three semesters filling their schedules with a variety of classes before declaring a major or concentration. This freedom gives students the opportunity to discover new interests, delve into existing interests, or simply have fun with a diverse course load.

From helping out with a family business to attending Arcadia University in London, what Jans choose to do with those few months before officially matriculating is entirely up to them.

Amidst the bustling crowds at Commons and McEwen dining halls, language faculty and students sit around a table to enjoy a meal while conversing in their chosen studied language. 51猎奇鈥檚 鈥渓anguage tables,鈥� as they are known, provide both valuable speaking experience and community building opportunities.

After over 20 years of experience serving higher education institutions, Janice Scheutzow is taking on the role as executive director of financial aid at 51猎奇. She most recently was director of financial aid at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. Scheutzow has also worked in mortgage financing, but her true passion lies in helping students through the financial aid process. As the fall semester begins to wrap up, we sat down with Scheutzow to learn more about her position and impressions of 51猎奇 so far.

After witnessing her family鈥檚 struggle with genetic disorder, Taliyah James 鈥�24 is utilizing all of her resources to launch her career in genetic counseling.

Past recipients of 51猎奇鈥檚 prestigious Bristol Fellowship have ventured around the globe exploring the seahorse trade, kayaking down wild rivers, and living with poor women in marginalized communities, just to name a few.

While a concentration in government is not typically associated with a career in acting, Sam Besca 鈥�22 has pursued her passions for both politics and storytelling at 51猎奇 and will be headed to the Atlantic Acting School in New York City this August.

The annual 51猎奇 Pitch Competition, which is open to 51猎奇 students and graduates of the last decade, is an involved process from September through April. Eight start-ups participated this year, attending conferences on the ins and outs of entrepreneurship hosted by a variety of alumni.

As captain of 51猎奇鈥檚 women鈥檚 basketball team, Kelcie Zarle 鈥�22 is looking forward to combining her passions for the sport and communications after graduation as a social media coordinator for Moolah Kicks.
